ELLERTON was built for the manager of a large tea estate more than 100 years ago. Now owned by Richard & Cary Goode, it retains the character and tranquillity of those colonial days. At 2,400 feet Ellerton combines the best of Sri Lanka’s weather. The sun in the day is hot, while the evenings and nights are relatively cool without the stickiness of the coast, nor the distinct chill of the hill country. Close to the geographic centre of Sri Lanka, 3 hours drive from Colombo, 30 minutes from Kandy, Ellerton is ideally sited for exploring the Island. Set in beautiful gardens, Ellerton has 8 comfortable double bedrooms, all with en-suite facilities. Ellerton is rated the best hotel in the Kandy district by guests.
Meals are usually served in the large open sided Dining Pavilion. The Pavilion has a seating area providing a shady corner retreat to read or just admire the view down the valley. Ellerton has two excellent chefs. Dinner is a menu of three courses with a choice of a curry or non-curry main course. Menus at Ellerton vary considerably day to day, and so even a guest staying for 10 days is unlikely to be offered the same dishes twice! You will see from the sample menus that the curries refer to the main meat or fish curry, this is always accompanied by five or six separate vegetable curries. For vegetarians these provide an excellent range of Sri Lankan dishes.
